    Recipe: Pomegranate-Rosé Pulled Pork

There’s nothing quite as versatile as pulled pork. Once a shoulder or butt has been braised on low heat for several hours, the meat becomes tender and juicy, and easily shreddable for a number of dishes: sandwiches, quesadillas, pizza, pasta, soup. You name it. This recipe came about like many of my other creations: I had a bunch of unused ingredients languishing in my fridge, waiting for an inspired idea. In this case, pomegranate juice leftover from muhammara and a bottle o

Recipe: Spanish-Inspired Stew with Ham, Chorizo, and Shrimp

Not sure what to do with all that leftover ham/ham bone from a holiday feast? Well, let me tell you a story. A couple months ago my fiancee went over to our friends’ house for our regular bi-monthly dinner with them. Aaron and Sarah are close buddies of mine from college (both are in our wedding party) – but more importantly, they’re damn fine cooks. Aaron had mentioned his wife was going to be throwing together some sort of stew with a “bunch of ingredients she felt like hav

    Recipe: Coconut Lime Chicken

Did you ever cook something that required only HALF a can of coconut milk? Annoying. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve scrambled to figure out what to do with the other half of that can. Use it to frost a carrot cake? Uh, sure. Whip up a mini Thai curry? Been there, done that. This chicken is the perfect solution when you don’t feel like baking or simmering a stew. I have to say, when I first made this dish a few years ago, I did not purposefully set out to replicate the t

Recipe: Pork Braised with Cider and Cherries

One of my favorite kitchen activities is to play a home version of Chopped: I scan the fridge and pantry for leftover ingredients from recent meals and come up with innovative ways to use them. For example, you can make an excellent chimmichurri-inspired pesto from leftover parsley, cilantro, almonds, and parmesan (not to mention a healthy dose of fresh garlic and olive oil.) Instead of competing with another person, I compete with myself for how inventive I can make each sub

Recipe: Onion Jam and Blue Cheese Pizza with Prosciutto and Brussels Sprouts

Mark my words: you’ve never experience paradise until you’ve had a bite of blue cheese paired with onion jam. I love strong, pungent flavors and the combination of the sweet, tangy jam and the sharp, fragrant blue cheese has literally caused my eyes to roll back in my head. It’s why I had to turn it into pizza. Now, pizza isn’t the easiest thing I’ve ever cooked. It looks like it should be – a little dough, a little sauce, a little cheese – what could go wrong? But it’s actua
